Bilic speaks to Samuel
Far too much to C&P in one:

Slaven Bilic is getting animated, which means the furniture is taking a bit of a battering. Not in the way it did in the television studio at the European Championship, where his passionate performances involved leaping on to the table to celebrate a Dimitri Payet goal.

Bilic is still in his seat. But glasses are shaking as he brings down his palm for added emphasis. And he emphasises... a lot.

‘These days, people don’t call Arsene Wenger the great football man, like they used to,’ he says. ‘Now they say he’s naive — him, and all those type of coaches. Everyone talks about nice football but the age we are in, all they care about really is the result. And if you don’t get the result, they kill you!

‘I think Sam will do well,’ he insists. ‘The players will respect him. He’s a big man. He’s Big Sam. You see him on the television, he fills the screen. You are looking for the board with the sponsors names behind. Where have they gone? You can’t see them.

great article and great manager. I shudder at the idea of this being the "NBA" though. that league is everything that is wrong with professional sports.

Simply outstanding manager. A great man.

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
That is a superb interview. I love the man and said yesterday, I wouldn't change him for any other manager.

I saw a Guardiola interview this morning and he came across really wel as well. Good sense of humour and intelligent.

I also saw one with Mourinho - still an obnoxious little prick.

Cracking article. Not often you can read a long piece and feel not only was there not a wasted word in it, but eager to read more.

Don't think there is a person in football that speaks better or knows football better.

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
but it shouldn't be really, should it?

a couple of dodgy results at the start of the season shouldn't undo the good will earned over the entire previous season?

if we won't support the team in these circumstances who will?

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
its important we win the Bournemouth game. It's a real possibility we could be on 1 pts after 3 games and then the pressure will be on.

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
exactly.

We have to get our heads screwed on straight for this season. what happened last time was *exceptional*. In all likelihood the road will be bumpier this season. I'll be disappointed if we turn on Slav because he can't repeat or exceed what he's managed so far. From what he's said in the press, he fully expects us to come down on him hard when we lose a few games, or the atmosphere at the new stadium isn't immediately rocking, etc. Let's prove him wrong.

We beat every London team last season. When was the last time that happened if ever?

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
"7th seems kind of average"...

Actually Slaven delivered out best season since '85...

We've only topped 1.6 pts per game once before since 3pts for a win came in...

Absolute superb piece that.... cheers....

‘When I came to West Ham, we had great players, Florin Raducioiu, Ilie Dumitrescu. But they weren’t West Ham. West Ham was Steve Potts, Julian Dicks, IAN BISHOP. Those were the guys you looked to in the dressing room. You’ve got to have it".

He knows...

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
Even though 7th seems kind of average when looked at historically, it's the way it happened that made last season legendary for me.

We beat pretty much every big team. Liverpool home and away, Man city, Arsenal. Teams that have hundreds of millions in players on the pitch. Our record signing was 17m, everyone else was peanuts in comparison.

I dont think we've had a manager that has consistently beaten the best teams in the country especially in the age of oil money clubs.

I do think its a legendary achievement for us to be honest. Unless he does even better I doubt last season will be forgotten by an hammers fan.

Thanks for that HHG.enjoyed reading it.

Looking forward to this season morethan any other for a long long time and I hope slaven is here for many more.

i get the hero worship but im not quite there yet. I've been there once before with him and there is still a little bit of me that remembers his first stint here, and the disappointment of how and when it ended.

it's a little bit that shrinks every time he speaks and i hope he ends up the hero he could have been as a player.

Thank you for posting - excellent read

Anyone who has not grasped that Slav is something rather special clearly does not understand football

Don't get the hero worship but it's nice to see some posters being positive for a change after all the tripe spouted about our last manager.
Bilic has had more money to spend than any of our previous managers so let's stay positive and see what he can do with them. Anywhere close to last season this year would be ok with me.

Re: Bilic speaks to Samuel
Great interview with a great man. His love for the game and passion to deliver is infectious, the best manager i've seen at the club in my lifetime.
